Top 10 Winter skin care tips you need during Winters

Our wardrobes change with every passing season and so should our skin care routine. Since our skin tends to become dry and patchy during the cold winter months, amping up our daily skincare routine is a must.

Read on to discover how to fight winter dryness using these 7 easy tips and tricks:

1. Avoid and limit the time you spent in hot showers because this hot water eventually swathes away all the natural oils from your skin- leaving it to be more dry and flaky. It is preferable to use warm water when bathing instead of how water.

2. It’s likable to use a face serum/face oil in addition to your daily moisturiser. It allows you enjoy a supple soft, glowing skin. You can use the Inisfree face oil, it’s available in a plenty of variants each benefiting in its own way.

3. Try and Avoid using harsh peel off masks, and alcohol-based toners or astringents on your face. Use more and more face sheets instead. Reach out for the ones that are “deeply hydrating,”. Skip using clay-based products , as they tend to draw moisture out of your face. You can definitely check out face sheets by The Face shop and Nykaa on

4. Make sure you Exfoliate your skin using sugar scrubs once in every 3 days. These sugar crystals help eliminate dead skin cells and also help you buzz away ageing skin cells gently, leaving behind a polished, flake free skin. You can use the Sugar scrub from Bath and Body works, it’s great, works well for every skin type and smells amazing too.

5. Coconut oil is a product that is available in every household but people often mistaken it as just a pantry staple, which is not true. Coconut oil is a blessing during winters- It has some of the best ingredients that can easily help you combat dry skin in the winter months. Since it is rich  in both Vitamin E and fatty acids like lauric acid, myristic acid and capric acid (among many others) which impart anti-fungal, anti-oxidizing and anti-bacterial to it. You must have seen a lot of coconut containing products making rounds in the market these days. You do not necessarily have to buy to try them, you can always use coconut in its natural form and make it a part of your skincare routine. You can apply it on your arms and legs and use it as a moisturiser or you can also apply it on your lips it’ll solve the purpose of a lip balm then. Coconut oil also helps in lightening down scars, stretch marks when used continuously over a period of time.

6. Eat well, Live well. It is extremely important to keep a check on what all you consume. Especially with the holiday and wedding season making rounds one after the other during winters, everybody becomes more and more lenient with their food choice. Choosing things that are high in salt, preservatives or fats, is definitely not a good idea during winters- they make your skin more puffy and dry. It is important to include food items that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, silica and anti-oxidants, in your diet. These food items will help you keep your skin nourished from the inside. Sweet potatoes for that matter are rich in beta-carotene and contain an abundance of vitamin A which certainly is one of the most important nutrients required to combat and prevent dry skin. The anti-oxidants in sweet potatoes also help to repair tissue damage and prevent signs of premature aging. Also, since Cucumbers have a significant amount of water content and they also contain high amounts of silica which is an important nutrient that helps elevate moisture levels in the skin. Cucumbers are also rich in vitamin A and C which again help to soothe dry skin and fight any further damage.

7. Do not skip using your sunscreen as be it summers or Winters, The harsh UV rays from the sun can interfere with the skin’s barrier function, causing a decline in ceramide levels further preventing skin from holding on to any natural moisture. Make sure you use a sunscreen/moisturiser/ foundation with an SPF- 30 or higher every morning before you leave home for work.

8. Cracked Heels/Feet is a common sight during winters. As a result of lack of moisturization, the skin on the feet tends to become drier. This dryness causes the skin to crack. You need no expensive creams/products to help you overcome this. Home remedies like a mixture of Vaseline+Lemon can easily help you heal your cracked feet.

9. For people with dry hair, winter is usually a really tough time. What you can do to help your locks stay nourished is – deep condition your hair using coconut oil, and while you’re at it, pay a little extra attention on your ends and over the weekends devote some time into making some fun DIY hair softening masks. Here I have one for you, in case you’d like to give it a try

  • Ripe banana – 2
  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Honey – 1 tablespoon

You do not have to do much, just simply apply this banana mask evenly on your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse it off using lukewarm water. Shampoo your hair normally after the mask is completely rinsed. You’ll instantly feel, that you’re hair feels softer and shinier.

Bananas are a natural ingredient exceptionally rich in antioxidants, potassium, and vitamins, which are beneficial for the treatment of dry, frizzy and brittle hair. You can apply this mask once every week to gain quick results.

10. Last but the most common concern during winters has to be Dry hands. Extreme weather and dryness obviously contribute significantly in making things worse for us but the best you can do to keep your chapped hands hydrated and happy is always make sure that you have a hand cream with you in your handbag. There are a lot of options available in the market for you to choose from. My personal favorite is the Faceshop’s Mini Pet Perfumed hand cream.

I am sure winter does make you lazy but always remember, No matter what skin type you may have or what products you use, you won’t be able to see the results until and unless you follow your winter skincare routine religiously! It’s a good idea to shake away all that laziness and indulge in some pampering for your skin. Irrespective of all the recommendations here, It is important to find what works best and stick to it, in order to get the best results.

That’s it for this blog! I’ll see you super soon xx
