Gingham

We all know that quote from The Devil Wears Prada where Miranda Priestly denounces florals for spring as hardly being groundbreaking. Besides being a fresh alternative to florals, gingham has clear appeal. If you agree with the infamous fictional editor and you’re looking for something fresh for your spring wardrobe, you’ll be pleased to know that gingham was a major trend on the Spring 2017 runways.

The distinct checked fabric was seen at shows throughout fashion month, including Carolina Herrera, Blumarine, Peter Pilotto, House of Holland and Pringle of Scotland. And the look was quickly snapped up by editors, bloggers and street style stars just name a fashion person who didn’t opt for one gingham piece this season. Much of the fashion set was already test-driving the print during the chilly days at the shows, which means you can start wearing it right now and over a year from now or many be for a lifetime!! Its ever green, Trust ME on that.

The checkered print is as classic as polka dots or stripes or tartan. It has a preppy vibe that is perfect for the warmer weather, but you can also find gingham pieces to suit your edgier style.

Also, There are few prints that are more of a summer classic than gingham. A simple blouse in the fun print leaves us daydreaming about laid-back warm-weather picnics with friends or a cheeky, off-the-shoulder dress fuels our inner Brigitte Bardot. Lucky for us, gingham is one of the biggest prints this summer, so it’s time to stock up on your own collection of the playful pattern. I have been seeing a lot of these trends in Zara!

Like just about every fashion fellow I follow on Instagram, I’ve been hit hard by the gingham bug this summer. Pants, PJs, dresses, jumpsuits—piece by piece, the retro pattern is gradually taking over my closet just name it i have it.

And don’t get me wrong: I’m not mad about it. But I’m also a little wary about veering too far into costume-y territory, especially considering the unabashed femininity of the rest of the season’s biggest trends—ruffles, basket bags, cat-eye sunglasses, and the like. While the head-to-toe ’60s-French-girl look is fab on some people (Jeanne Damas, I’m lookin’ at you), mixing it up is more my style. Think sneakers and floaty dresses, tailored blazers and distressed denim, or vintage-y prints with modern pieces.
